Destinations to Visit after or before the Rwenzori Marathon

Queen Elizabeth National Park

This is the closest stop and destination you can visit on your trip. This is popularly known to be home to the tree climbing lions and one of the best places in Uganda to do birding. While in the park, you can choose to go on a boat ride along Kazinga channel where you will spot the various wildlife species including several species of birds, crocodiles, hippos and much more.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Situated in the south west of Uganda, this is a true destination where you will enjoy watching mountain gorillas right in their natural habitat. Gorilla trekking is an exciting activity as it presents you the opportunity to get an up close experience of these gentle species as they roam freely in their habitat.

Gorilla trekking permits cost $800 per person for foreign Non-residents, $700 per person for foreign residents and UGX 300,000 for east African citizens. There four sectors where you can go tracking and these are; Rushaga, Buhoma, Nkuringo and Ruhija.

Kibale Forest National Park

Also known as the primate capital of the world, Kibale is the best place to visit in Uganda if you plan to get a memorable primate trekking experience. This is home to over 13 primate species and while here, the highlight of your safari is to do chimpanzee tracking where you will encounter these playful species as they hang and make noise on tree branches.

While in Kibale, you will as well visit the Bigodi wetland sanctuary which is the best spot to view various species of birds, primates’ species and much more.
